I’ve started doing some manufacturing with Wellforge, completing the process of item creation from asteroid mining, through mineral refining, and manufacture. It felt good to complete the chain. Never one to do something half-assed, I started by building an Astero, an exploration frigate.
[The Astero] was one of the first vessels the Sisters of EVE made available to capsuleers. It had been under development by the Sanctuary corporation, whose interest in exploration includes not only search & rescue operations but also a constant inquiry into the nature of the EVE Gate. Thanks to the Sisters’ efforts and the Sanctuary’s particular expertise, the Astero is an agile, tenacious ship that aptly adheres to the mantra of both rescuers and explorers: Stay safe, stay hidden, and use every tool at your disposal.
I bought a BPC through an auction in the contracts system for 78,000,000 ISK (a bargain at the time), and mined the rest of the materials myself. It’s a great myth of MMO economies that materials gathered yourself are “free” — they’re only free if your time has no value — but Wellforge’s whole skill plan and lifestyle is based around mining, so it seemed fitting.
Because the BPC was so expensive (relative to my wealth, at least) I did the whole process in high-sec space near Rens. I’ve since started doing blueprint copying and research out of a station in low-sec space where there’s less competition for resources.
I’ve since picked up Rifter and Probe BPOs and started producing them en masse. My goal for EVE, it seems, is to end up living out in low-sec as a rich (or at least self-sufficient) industrialist, so this has been a good stepping stone.
